Since Thanksgiving night my stress levels have been at an all time high. Coming back to reality after a holiday break is the absolute worst, but finals are coming up and I have tons of work to do. It really hit me the night of Thanksgiving where I laid awake in bed all night and didn't get a wink of sleep. All the next day I wasn't very productive due to the lack of sleep, but I managed to get a significant amount of work done the following day.
I don't know if any of you are like me, but I stress about everything. Big or small, I am stressed about it until I have completed the task. With two essays to write and two creative writing portfolios to do, I need some serious time to relax after I am working on them.
Here is what I have been doing:
- Long candle lit baths- When I say long, I mean an hour minimum. Nothing is better after a long day of work than a hot bath and a good book. Right now I am reading Normal People Don't Live Like This by Dylan Landis, a book of short stories is great to limit yourself to only one story per bath time.
- Hot cocoa and a movie- Being an english major means lit classes. So what I do after reading the novel is find the movie version of the story. This semester I had to read Pride and Prejudice by Jane Austen and after I have written a portion of my essay, I turn on the movie with Keira Knightley drink some hot cocoa with marshmallows. This helps me jog my memory and makes for a nice night.
- Candy Crush- Yes I know, how lame? But this is like a little reward for myself after I have finished writing a paragraph of my essay. What better way to keep yourself going than a little Candy Crush therapy at the end. I mean really.
These three things have been life savers for me this weekend and have helped me stay focused a ton. What are some of your ways of relaxing during a stressful time? How do you stay motivated?
